Wether you already have an irrigation system or are interesting in installing one in the future, understanding modern irrigation innovation is critical to having a cost efficient and effective system. Continued innovation in smart controllers, flow meters, sensors, nozzles and more has enabled irrigation system to more effeciently use one of our most precious resources – water – while at the same time effectively watering your lawn and gardens.

Three key innovations

Three key innovations differentiate modern irrigation system from those of the past.

  1. Smart Controllers
  2. Flow Meters
  3. Nozzle variety for matched precipitation rates

Smart Controllers

Smart controllers have emerged over the past few years and taken over for traditional controllers. While more expensive to purchase, they make up for the cost in terms of convenience and efficiency. Most smart controllers automatically monitor the weather and adjust your watering to compensate for current weather conditions. You can also monitor your irrigation system from anywhere in the world from any internet connected device. One additional little thought about advantage is that in most cases you no longer need to be home for a service visit since your service company can operator your system via the smart controller’s app vs having to get into your garage or basement for controller access

Flow Meters

It used to be much more of a mystery how much water your irrigation system was actually using and difficult to tell if there was a leak. With flow meters, you can see exactly how much water your system uses each time it runs and keep tabs on any water usage when it isn’t running – indicating a leak. Flow meters can be added to any new or existing irrigation system with a smart controller.

Nozzles

Today’s nozzle options are nearly unlimited so that your informed irrigation designer or service tech can select the appropriate nozzle to ensure a matched precipitation rate across your lawn and landscape. This keeps areas of your yard evenly watered so water is used most efficiently and no area is over or under watered.
